FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Confused about which course?

There are many courses and organisations, all offering different qualifications and styles of training - this can be very confusing when trying to choose the right Reflexology course for you.

Firstly, ensure that you don't enrole on a distance learning or correspondance course - none of the membership organisations listed on this website will accept these kind of courses.

Secondly, please be aware that there is a huge variety of standards in the level 3 training market (this is why we don't teach it). We even know of a school whereyou can train on a level 3 course that lasts for just 6 half-day lessons, but  can occasionally find a good level 3 school that will teach you over a full year. Most of the level 3 courses now seem to be a combination of distance learning and 5 or 6 days learning practical Reflexology in class. We really don't think you can learn to be a proper clinical Reflexologist after just 5 or 6 days training.

Jubilee College only offers the best in Reflexology training. We are a partnership centre with the Integrated Reflexology Consortium, so we can offer the UK's first and origional Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology. Agored Cymru is the awarding body who accredits this diploma and the qualification is also on the OFQUAL register. No other Level 5 Diploma has such high credentials, therefore this qualification is the highest level of Reflexology training you can undertake in the UK.

Find out if the school you are proposing to study with, enables you to join the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC - the UK complementary healthcare regulator), via the professional organisation it is linked to. For example, Jubilee College is linked with the Association of Reflexologists, the UK's largest and longest running Reflexology Association. Also be aware that some of the level 3 'practitioner diplomas' don't meet the CNHC entry criteria.

Then, find out if the course is delivered entirely by the college you are thinking of training with. Some training establishments will 'farm out' part of their training (particularly Anatomy and Physiology) to online training providers - you may then not get the necessary teaching support for this element of the course. Jubilee College trains all its students for 100% of the course, giving dedicated contact teaching.

What do all these different levels mean - level 3, level5?

We are very grateful to Agored Cymru for allowing us to use the diagram below. This identifies Level 5 as a Foundation Degree. This leveling chart is representative for all qualifications in England, Northern Ireland (QCF) and Wales (CQFW) . (Please not the levelling grades are different in Scotland [a level 8 in Scotland is the same as a level 5 in England and Wales]).
agored levels

So in short the Level 3 has the standard of work of an A-Level, and Level 5 has the standard of work of a Foundation Degree

Why is it good to belong to a reputable professional organisation?

  • Use of the letters MAR, mFHT, CHP or CThA (dependant on the organisation - all these organisations accept the Level 5 diploma in Practitinoer Reflexology)
  • All associations have a very useful "Find a Reflexologist" register
  • Use of the organisations logo on all your advertising literature
  • Peer group support from local area groups
  • Latest industry information via newsletters and journals
  • Access to research papers
  • Access to "Members Area" on their website
  • Reflexology advice
  • Low cost, high cover, insurance policy from top insurance company
  • Fully accredited CPD events and international speakers

What is a Practitioner Reflexologist, aren't all Reflexologists the same?

A Practitioner Reflexologist is someone who has been trained to the highest standards and can create a treatment protocol for many different conditions. Unfortunately, there are too many people who have taken a short course (sometimes as short as just 2 days!) or un-accredited and then call themselves Reflexologists. As these courses are so short, they cannot possibly equip a therapist to competently treat conditions.

What entry qualifications do I need?

To succeed on this course, it is more about determination and hard work (since the course is intensive), rather than previous qualifications. A GCSE in Biology will be helpful, but it is not essential. You certainly don't need to have studied previously at Further or Higher Education level to successfully qualify on this course.
You do need to be able to speak and write in English, to be able to use Microsoft 'Word'/Apple 'Pages' and submit work via e-mail.

When do the courses start?

Our courses start at various weekends in October each year, depending on the venue chosen.
Some of our venues also have a Spring start for students.

To view the course dates, click on the preferred venue (eg, Sheffield, Nottingham, etc).

What days are the training sessions on?

Most of our training days are at the weekend to enable students to still keep a job, and then train at weekends. We also have mid-week starts to the course in Nottingham, Peterborough and London

For details of  the course dates, click on the preferred venue (eg, Sheffield, Nottingham, etc) on the Venues & Dates menu.

How long does the course last?

Our courses normally run for one calender year. However, some students prefer to extend their period of study to suit their learning speed.

What happens if I can't get to all the training dates?

100% attendance is required for the duration of the course. However, we do understand that life is full of unexpected events. Therefore, the course is designed so that students can swap training dates by attending other venues (eg, if you can't make a Nottingham venue date, you can attend the same lesson at Sheffield, or one of the other venues).

How much time will I need to spend on homework?

The answer to this does very much depend on the individual. As a rule of thumb, we suggest 12 - 14 hours of home study per week. This does include case studies, assignments and revision of learning from classwork.

What qualification will I get?

You will qualify with the UK's highest award in Reflexology: Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology.  This may be used, not only to become a professional Reflexologist, but also as 'accredited prior learning' towards other higher education programs. (do check with your learning provider as all HE providers have their own APL policies).

How many Credits will I be awarded?

You will be awarded 79 Credits by Agored Cymru and these can be used as acredite prior learning to HE and University courses.
Credits are more important than most people realise, as they also signify tthe difference between a regulated qualification, and a school that prints out it's own certificate but without any external awarding body. To signify this importance, the AoR only accept students who have completed a regulated qualification.

Don't I have to do an introductory course first?

No - many Further Education colleges will tell you that you need to do an entry-level Reflexology course first (such as a level 3 diploma) - this is completely unnecessary.

How much does the course cost?

Our course costs £3995 + the fee's below (inc VAT).

Are there any extra costs incurred on top of the basic course fees?

With the exception of the items listed below, everything you need to pass the course is included in the total cost:

  • Lafuma recliner chair (optional, but recommended)
  • Uniforms (not needed until after the sixth lesson)
  • Awarding body and registration fee £356.25 (payable at the first lesson)
  • Student membership to the Association of Reflexologists £39 (payable at first lesson)
  • Any towels, pillows, or other consumables you are wanting to use

Can I pay by instalments?

Yes you can. This is done by Standing Order, is without extra cgarge and is arranged at the beginning of the course.

Can I get a Student Loan for this course?

Unfortunately not. Although the level of training is the correct level for student loans, because we are a private college our courses do not qualify for funding. To help spread the cost of the course, we give the option of monthly payments for the duration of the course.

How do I book for the Practitioner's Course?

Click the 'Book Here' button, for the venue of your choice, on the training page which will send your deposit to us and we will take care of the rest of your booking.

Auricular Reflexology - Starter Class

We are super-excited that Stefanie Sabounchian is returning to the UK exclusively to teach Auricular Reflexology at Jubilee College! She is bringing her class this time to Sheffield. Stefanie is not only the foremost Auricular Reflexology instructor in the USA, she is also the Vice President of the World Reflexology Foundation - now you can see why we are so lucky to have her teaching with us!

Auricular Reflexology is one of the most talked about branches of Reflexology since it was demonstrated on Dragos Den - and ALL SIX Dragons made offeres! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-68028447 . Stefanie is the leading teacher of this therapy in the USA, so you can be assured of the very best training.

Ear Reflexology is based on the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture. Originally only a very few ear points were known, and they were not organized somatotopically, but in a non-specific pattern. The first somatotopic ear map was developed in 1957 by the French physician Paul Nogier and is based upon the concept of an inverted fetus orientation. Today we are working with a combination of French and Chinese Reflex Maps.

The ears are an amazing reflex area for rapid and profound relaxation and pain reduction, especially for most musculoskeletal issues. Working with two Somatotopic Ear Maps, Functional Points and Master Points, you will see remarkable results for a variety of different issues your clients may be dealing with. You can add Ear Reflexology into your Foot and Hand Reflexology session, and/or combine it with other modalities.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Learn how to get powerful results with Ear Reflexology. At the end of this class, you will be confident to perform a one-hour Ear Reflexology Routine, working with French & Chinese Reflex Maps, Master Points and Functional Points and know the priority reflex locations on the ears. Discover pulses, electrical currents and temperatures, and what changes in these could be telling you about the person you are helping. Explore several ways to incorporate Ear Reflexology with Foot and Hand Reflexology and other modalities.

CLASS OVERVIEW

In the morning we will be going over a brief introduction of Ear Reflexology including the history, benefits, and precautions. You will discover the anatomical regions of the outer ear, the ear reflex map, and how to detect possible imbalances Primary Master Points and several Functional Points. The remainder of the day will be practical Ear Reflexology. After a demonstration on how to work on the ears, you will be guided through performing ear reflexology on your fellow students.

PREREQUISITE

This seminar is open to all qualified Reflexologists. Because of the practical nature of the training, numbers are limited. A workbook is also included in the course cost.
